PHOENIX —The former manager and trainer of Hall of Fame boxer Michael Carbajal was sentenced to 4½ years in prison Thursday in connection with a fraud scheme.
Danny Carbajal, 57, pleaded guilty last July in Maricopa County Superior Court to one count of fraudulent schemes and two counts of theft.
He was accused of unlawfully transferring land and property that was jointly held by himself and his late wife, who was shot to death in 2005.
Prosecutors said Danny Carbajal submitted paperwork with false information to a divorce court and deeded all of the properties to himself over the course of three years.
Michael Carbajal, a Phoenix native, was a former IBF and WBO junior flyweight champion. He retired in 1999 with a record of 49-4 with 33 KOs and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2006.
