The commander of the Air Force's main maintenance and storage unit at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base has been relieved of command and reassigned, D-M confirmed Tuesday.
On Monday, Col. Margaret Romero was relieved of command of the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group “due to a loss of confidence in Col. Romero's ability to effectively lead the organization,” according to a D-M spokeswoman.
The 309th AMARG, known as The Boneyard, is the Air Force’s main aircraft storage site and falls under the command of Ogden Air Logistics Complex at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Brig. Gen. Carl Buhler, commander of the Ogden Air Logistics Complex, made the decision to relieve Romero, who had commanded the 309th since last June and was promoted to colonel in August.
Col. Matthew Powell, Ogden Air Logistics Complex deputy commander for maintenance, has been appointed commander of the AMARG, and Romero has been temporarily reassigned to a position within the 12th Air Force, D-M said.
