Post offices in Tucson will be open Sunday for the collection of cards and packages for Christmas delivery.
Retail services will not be available, but customers can deposit their mail in blue collection boxes outside post office locations by 2:30 p.m. for Sunday pickup. Mail also can be dropped off inside post offices.
The service will allow customers to avoid the crowds at post offices Monday, which is expected to be the busiest mailing day of the year. Local mail volume is expected to increase Monday from a daily average of about 320,000 pieces to over 950,000 pieces, Carl Grigel, Tucson postmaster, said in a news release.
In addition to an extra collection day, the post office will deliver packages in the Tucson area on Sunday, too.
Customers in need of postage can purchase it from post offices that have self-service kiosks in their lobbies. Postage also can be purchased online. For more information, go to www.usps.com.
