Although I do remember watching the moon landing on TV, what struck me most vividly were the responses around the world to that event. I think Herb Caen summed it up best in his column in the San Francisco Chronicle. He wrote about how we would now see ourselves as humankind, as earthlings, not divided by national border conflicts. Alas, we still have a long way to go to become truly compassionate global citizens.
