Operation Deep Freeze, an annual interagency program that shelters homeless people during extreme cold temperatures, still needs a new home.
The Salvation Army Hospitality House, 1021 N. 11th Ave., is the intake center for winter programs, with the South Corps Community Center, 1625 S. Third Ave., serving in the past as the overflow shelter.
But in the past year, the South Corps Community Center has developed into a growing bilingual church and community center, with family and youth activities. To maintain those programs for at-risk youths, the South Corps building will no longer be available for winter programs.
The Hospitality House will continue to be the intake center and first option for housing homeless people when temperatures reach 35 degrees or lower, or 40 degrees if it is raining.
But the program often requires more room overnight and is in urgent need of a new space from Nov. 15 to March 31. In the past, vacant shopping centers or warehouses have been used.

The space needs to hold roughly 200 people, and have 4,000 to 6,000 square feet. It also must have bathroom facilities or a place to put portable toilets. The space should be near a bus line, as Sun Tran provides transportation for program recipients. Having kitchen facilities or showers is a plus, but not necessary.
The Salvation Army is hoping someone will come forward with a space donation. As a last resort, the organization will consider renting a facility, though it hopes for a reduced rate.
