It was Jazz Sundae on April 17, 1983, and Reid Park Bandshell was the place to be for jazz lovers. Among the performers at the sixth annual event was Louis Bellson. According to the Star review, "What Bellson does spectacularly well is to use the rhythms he plays to imply a second beat within the beat he is already using. It's the rhythmical equivalent of singing a song in two keys at the same time." Despite a temperature in the high 80s, more than 4,000 people attended the concert, sponsored by the Tucson Jazz Society along with the city Parks and Recreation Department.
