It required bowling three strikes in the 10th frame to win and Ron Palombi was equal to the task. At the finals of the 1984 Tucson PBA Open, on June 2, he needed to roll the perfect frame to defeat Mark Fahy, 208-207. For his effort, Palombi, 21, walked away with the $16,000 winner's check and his first professional triumph. "I've dreamed of this all my life," he said, "and there I was, needing three strikes to win. I couldn't believe it." Fellow bowler Don Genalo, left, congratulated Palombi after his win.
