BENJIE SANDERS / ARIZONA DAILY STAR 1978 The words Duncan and yo-yo are almost synonymous. But when Tucsonan Donald Duncan Jr., whose father had created the original Duncan yo-yo, invented a new version of the toy, it couldn't carry the Duncan name. The family was no longer connected with the Duncan company. Instead, the new version, with 80 percent of its weight on one side, was described as the "Pro-yo." It sold for $3.95. On Jan. 11, 1978, Billy Dale Oliver, standing, and Barney Akers demonstrated their yo-yoing skills with the new device at Duncan's new shop on East Speedway near Swan Road.
