Tucson Water is addressing high call volumes and long waits on hold this summer by bringing in additional staff and extending its customer service hours during the week.
Call volumes are high due to hot weather, Tucson Water says. Officials concede the time spent on hold is excessive, noting the department has 10 vacancies in the customer service department.
Some staffers will be reassigned to help with customer service calls and employees in the city’s Environmental Services Department will help handle account delinquency calls.
The call center has extended its hours from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
