The Manning House was built in 1907 by Tucson pioneer and former Mayor Levi Manning. For many years after the family sold it, the house served as the home of the Elks Club. But, as shown in this photo, by March 25, 1983, the once stately mansion was in pretty sad shape. However, unlike many of the elegant old homes that once filled the Downtown area known as Snob Hollow, this home would not face the wrecking ball. Instead, it would soon undergo an extensive renovation as part of La Entrada, a redevelopment project. The building, at 450 W. Paseo Redondo, currently serves as a special events center.
Tucson Time Capsule is an occasional feature, a photographic record of Tucson as it was.
