What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”
Last week’s recipient: Andi Hammonds.
Nominated by: Kari Cadenhead.
Why: For her tireless work in helping refugees and their families get settled. Hammonds runs the Survivors of Torture program for the International Rescue Committee. She coordinates clothing donations, diaper drives, jobs and activities for the refugees. “She cares deeply for the women and their children and does everything in her power to make sure they are cared for,” Cadenhead wrote in her nomination letter.
