The Tucson School for the Blind and Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, or SAAVI, will celebrate White Cane Day on Friday, Oct. 23 with games and activities at the Main Library in downtown Tucson.
The free event “celebrates the independence, achievements, and contributions of people who are blind or visually impaired,” a news release says. White Cane Day is observed annually on Oct. 15 and celebrates the tool that allows the blind and visually impaired to move freely and independently, according to the National Federation of the Blind.
Activities include a Braille scavenger hunt, adaptive games and art and Braille literacy activities.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Library, 101 N. Stone Ave. Families, students, educators and community members interested in learning about visual impairment and accessibility are encouraged to attend.
