St. Philip's Friends of Music presents "Crossover: Classical Jazz," featuring Sandy Schwoebel, flute; with Alexander Tentser, piano; Pete Swan, drums; Geoff Hamilton, bass; Chris Hokin, guitar; and Carolyn Hokin, vocals.
The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Bloom Music Center at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave. at East River Road.
Classical music that has been influenced by jazz comes in many guises. This concert features a few examples, including diverse works such as "Concerto 2/3" by Otar Gordeli, "Ven a mis Brazos 2/3" by Christopher Caliendo, "Summer Music 2/3" by Richard Rodney Bennett, "Tuberama 2/3" by Ian Clarke and the well-known "Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio 2/3" by Claude Bolling.
Schwoebel holds a DMA degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and teaches at Pima Community College, as well as for TUSD's Opening Minds through the Arts program.
