A senior at Ironwood Ridge High School has won the eighth annual Tucson Birthday Stamp Design contest.
Joshua Baca was honored during a ceremony at the Postal History Foundation.
His design has been made into custom legal U.S. postage that can be purchased from the foundation in Tucson.
Baca’s pencil drawing reflects the culture and heritage of Tucson, showing saguaros, the early mission influence and the importance of the railroad on the region.
“I wanted to show the diversity of the people who have lived here throughout history,” Joshua said. “My inspiration for my stamp design comes from the everyday scenery we see in Tucson.”
Baca, who wants to study animation, is student body president at Ironwood Ridge, thespian president and member of the National Honor Society and Youth Advisory Council.

The top five winners from three age groups were given awards and prizes Friday at the ceremony.
Also, two designs from each age group were selected and printed as cachets on envelopes.
Cachet winners are:

- of Doolen Middle school. The other three cachet designs selected for envelopes are by

To order stamps, at $1.50 each, and cachets, at 50 cents per envelope, drop by the Postal History Foundation, 920 N. First Ave., weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
