Two photos of a mountain lion walking on top of the border fence near Naco were posted on social media Friday by the Arizona Game and Fish Department in Tucson.
They quickly "went viral," notes Mark Hart, local spokesman for the department.
The photos were taken a little more than a month ago by the U.S. Border Patrol near Naco, about 105 miles southeast of Tucson.
The fence is about 18 feet tall there, too high for the cat to leap onto, so it's believed the animal must have climbed up somehow, from the U.S. side, Hart said.
Two Border Patrol field agents watched the cat walk for some distance on top of the fence before going over to the Mexican side.
Arizona's mountain lion population is about 2,500 to 3,000, Game and Fish says.
