GLENDALE - A man has been severely burned after authorities say he climbed a utility pole and attempted to steal copper wire.
Glendale authorities say the man is in critical condition this morning after he was shocked by 120-thousand volts of electricity.
Around 8:30 last night, fire crews were called to a brush fire at 50th Avenue and Colter, north of Camelback Road. When they arrived, they saw a man dangling from the top of a utility pole.
Investigators think the man was trying to cut some wires for the copper.
Instead, authorities say he sliced into a live transmission wire and sent 120-thousand volts through his body.
The Glendale Fire Department says the man suffered severe burns, and was taken to Maricopa Medical Center for treatment.
