David Longwell, upper left, and Tim Diggles, upper right, lower down a panel to Josh Schaffer and Rachel Shand as they remove "Nuestras Raices Humanas" mural painted by David Tineo in collaboration with Antonio Pazos at the Tucson Museum of Art. Tineo says he met with directors at the museum and decided to take the piece down because not enough money could be raised for restoration.
The 1992 piece of artwork had started to deteriorate and became a hazard according to Tineo. Pieces of the mural will be cut up, signed, framed and sold at an auction. The proceeds will benefit the Tucson Museum of Art school. A time has not been set for the auction, but a museum spokesperson said it could be as early as this Spring.
