Prop 127 requires utilities to go 50% renewable by 2030. So in the decade of the 2020's the share of renewable energy must be increased by 38%. JFK would say, "We choose to go to renewable. We choose to go to renewable in this decade...not because it is easy, but because it is hard..." Tom Steyer, already made that speech. He's from California and is a longtime global coal investment hedge fund guy who had what he calls a "Road to Damascus" awakening around coal (while coal prices were plummeting).
Steyer spoke with his money - 10 million bucks of it to fund Prop 127, a fraction of 1% if his wealth. (Hey, it's a fun retirement hobby.) The Apollo Program cost $25.5 billion or in 2017 dollars $144 billion. NASA got its funding from US citizens of course. Where will AZ utilities get the money for the innovation and infrastructure needed to get to 50% renewable by 2030? Well, from Arizona citizens, of course.
