External evaluation of the UA Center for the Philosophy of Freedom

A team of four evaluators carried out an analysis of the UA's Center for the Philosophy of Freedom in 2019 and found that, while it performed well, it was also hindered by director David Schmidtz' tendency toward unilateral and opaque decisions.

To support libertarian and conservative thought at the University of Arizona, the Legislature poured money into the Center for the Philosophy of Freedom, previously funded by the Charles Koch Foundation. That bought some good work but made the center politically untouchable and above normal governance.
