SaddleBrooke Quilters have been busy piecing fabric, and sewing and quilting items to donate to charities. The quilt club has more than 100 members and meets on Friday mornings in the Craft Complex in HOA-1.
According to the club’s Service Chairwoman, Ann Bershaw, “So far, this year, we have donated twice to Hayden Senior Center, once to Springboard, and once to the Arizona Oncology Foundation (16 lap quilts in April). We have also donated to Impact of Southern Arizona and Senior Village, bonuses for them as they were not on our list to support this year.”
In June, Service Committee members visited Springboard, a residential treatment home for teenage girls. We delivered 25 cell phone bags and 25 gift bags stuffed with goodies we hope will encourage them in their transformation of hearts, attitudes and character.
In August, Hayden Senior Center in Hayden, Arizona, was the recipient of many homemade items, which include quilts, hot pads, place mats and small bags. Ann said, “Our deliveries are a source of great excitement for the seniors in Hayden.”
SaddleBrooke Quilters do not let anything go to waste. Even the little scraps of fabric, that end up after all the beautiful projects are done, are bundled together and stuffed into dog-and-cat-bed shells that the club also cuts and sews. These designer pet beds are donated to SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue the first Friday of each month, and they, in turn, donate them to all their pet facility partners. Year-to-date, SaddleBrooke Quilters have donated more than 100 beds. One of the Quilter’s dedicated members, Jane Luschwitz, has donated pet beds every month this year! Way to go, Jane!
