The 3-part ladies' group “Sonoran Singers” from Saddlebrooke graced the big stage on Tuesday April 7th at the Desert View Performing Arts Center with their fabulous blend of voices. The sound of the piano playing by Jaye Ann Smith, the curtain was closed as director Cora Peters began the program, strolling across the stage, with a solo performance of “Sing a Song” joining her for the second verse of the song in the background, as the curtain slowly opens were the harmonious voices of 18 beautiful ladies. The program continued with a variety of genres and generations of songs such as “Hallelujah, Get Happy/O Happy Day”, “California Dreamin’, “Crazy”, “Rock n Roll is here to Stay”, to softer melodies “Already Home”, “Georgia on my Mind”, “You Raise me Up”, “On a Clear Day”. The veterans were honored with a prayer song of blessing “The Lord Bless you and Keep You”. Elements of fun were added as they performed “I Want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart”. Two members Marilyn Ginther and Teresa Joyce, dressed in cowgirl attire, intertwined a touch of yodeling, while the Saddlebrooke Cloggers entered front stage and showed their vast talent of clog dancing. But the fun did not stop there as the choir started singing “Dancing Queen” Karen Ball, Shannon Bews and Cora Peters added their disco moves with a special disco style dance. Feet were tapping as the Sonoran Singers performed one of their favorites, “Lullaby of Broadway”. After 13 songs the choir ended the program with an upbeat “June is Bustin’ Out all Over” until an audience called out for an encore in which the choir did their signature and moving song “Shenandoah” in closing. Thanks again to Senior Village for requesting our return to the big stage, the excellent light and sound tech, stage crew, and to our fantastic audience! We hope to see you all again in December for the Christmas/Holiday Extravaganza.
