The trio of SaddleBrooke Community Libraries started 36 years ago with the first library in the SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse. As the community developed, two more libraries were added in HOA2. The libraries operate as amenities of the two Homeowner Associations and are staffed 100% by volunteers. They are private libraries, not part of any public library system, for use only by SaddleBrooke residents, renters and employees. The libraries strive to support the leisure and lifelong learning interests of SaddleBrooke residents by offering convenient access to over 13,000 books, audiobooks and DVDs. Their shelves include many current best sellers, and a number of special collections, as well as Large Print formats appropriate for a senior community. The Libraries are free for all SaddleBrooke residents! We invite you stop in, explore, and learn more about the broad range of materials available to you.

Three Locations, Unique Specializations

While all three libraries offer fiction, nonfiction, and large print books, they also each have a unique "personality" and offer some additional specialized collections.

DesertView Library: As the largest of the three libraries, DesertView houses the Library system’s collections of audiobooks (CD/MP3), CD players for cars and at home, and movies and TV series on DVD. It also features specialized sections for Cookbooks, Genealogy, Southwest Nonfiction, National Parks, Travel guidebooks, as well as Consumer Reports and Arizona Highways magazines. Grandparents visit here for the collection of Children’s books and movies. This library is located next to the DesertView Theater. Make a point of stopping in to find out all that this library offers!

SaddleBrooke One Library: The original SaddleBrooke Library, this cozy library offers current Fiction and non-Fiction as well as a collection of Pulitzer Prize Winners and books by SaddleBrooke Authors. During unstaffed hours you can still access a huge collection of paperbacks. This is the only library that offers Western and Romance paperbacks.

Cholla Library (MountainView): This recently re-imagined library, operates on an honor system with no due dates. Conveniently located just inside the main door of the MountainView Clubhouse, this popular little library is perfect for a quick stop. This is where you might find older titles in series by popular authors, or paperbacks by authors new to you. Grab a book and return it in the book drop when you’re finished. It could not be easier!

While the HOAs provide the physical space, maintenance, and funding for the online catalog system, they do not fund purchase of the books themselves. Instead, 95% of the library resources—including the latest bestsellers and media—are purchased through grants from the Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries (FSL). A non-profit 501(c)3 organization, FSL raises money through memberships, author luncheons, and lectures to ensure the shelves remain current.

Residents can check out items using only their phone number—no homeowner cards are required. For those looking to browse the shared online catalog or join the FSL, more information can be found at www.sblibraries.com. Stop into SaddleBrooke One or DesertView Library to register and open an account. Your account is good in both libraries.
