In celebration of Independence Day, the MountainView Lady Putters (MVLP) showed up in red, white, and blue attire on Monday, July 7. Treasurer Marilyn Ginther shared the blessings of living in America and read the words to “America” (My Country ‘tis of Thee) before sending 35 ladies to the putting green.
With the heat of a typical SaddleBrooke summer, attendance does decrease. But unmindful of the weather, friendly competitiveness remains a benchmark of MVLP. One hardly notices the nearly 100-degree temperature during putting until a rare breeze reminds the ladies how good it feels to cool off a bit. Sunscreen, protective eyewear and headgear, and plenty of water are safeguards against the July sunshine.
Unfortunately, there has been no safeguard against wayward putts. However, on Monday, June 16 with a total of 28 putters in attendance, there were 28 holes-in-one recorded, and on Monday, July 7, Kay Tomaszek aced five holes-in-one. During a three-week period, these ladies scored on the “Money Holes”: Kim Halper, Peg Senst, Judie Knapp, Kay Tomaszek, Jean Kraus, and Pat Wells.
There is a lot more fun for MV Lady Putters this summer, including “Goofy Golf” on Monday, August 11. The planning committee for this event is already working on the theme and putting hazards to make the 18 holes of putting as “goofy” as possible. Could there be a water hazard on the putting green? Perhaps you will give up your putter for a pool noodle or putt with the wrong-handed putter. Only the committee members will know how “goofy” this event will be until the ladies arrive that morning. If we could look into the future, one thing would be certain… MV Lady Putters are in it for the fun and friendships.
Many thanks to MVLP sponsors who support the ongoing activities and special events like “Goofy Golf”. Gold Sponsors ($500) are Platinum Air and Danielle Schamp; Silver Sponsors ($250) are Desert Life Pharmacy, Dos Sorenas, Catalina Family Dental, Monroe Concrete Coating, and Integrity Electrical; Bronze Sponsors ($125) are Aaron Franco State Farm, John Bogers, Sammy’s Mexican Grille, La Gringa and The Grout Doctor. The Sponsorship Committee members continue to enlist new sponsors. They also display corporate signs for sponsors around the edge of the putting green each Monday morning.
The Charity Committee continues to raise funds through October for the Mammoth-San Manuel United School district. Linda Edwards and E. J. Snearly are spearheading a fundraising goal of $2,000 to purchase new Pre-K graduation caps and gowns. Additional funds will benefit the “Teacher Educational Fund” and “Middle School Life Skills Training”. Cash or check donations will be accepted through October. Early July donations exceed $1,400.
If you think you would like to join the fun with MV Lady Putters, new members are welcome to join any time. For more information visit the website at mvlputters.com.
