Swiss skier Jasmine Flury has won gold in the women’s downhill at the world championships on a rough day for the pre-race favorites. Flury edged Austrian skier Nina Ortlieb by 0.04 seconds for her first career medal at major championships. Sofia Goggia was disqualified after skiing through a gate. Mikaela Shiffrin sat out the race.

Marta Bassino won the women’s super-G to give Italy its second gold medal at the skiing world championships. Mikaela Shiffrin took silver. Shiffrin led Bassino by three-tenths of a second at the second split but couldn’t match the Italian’s pace in the last part of the Roc de Fer course and finished 0.11 seconds behind.

American skier Mikaela Shiffrin’s pursuit of a record 83rd World Cup win will move on to the next stop on the circuit. Shiffrin finished seventh in the super-G, 0.62 seconds behind race winner Ragnhild Mowinckel on the course that will host the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics.
