Four members represented the SaddleBrooke Lady Niners at the annual State Medallion Tournament. Our four representatives were Pat Stead, Mary Leversee, Rosemary Bounds, and Laura Ingold. Both teams were in Flight 2 for the competition. They played the tournament on Friday, January 14, at the Sonoran Course, Oakwood Golf Club, Sun Lakes, AZ. Congratulations to Pat Stead and Mary Leversee for winning their flight. Way to shine for us, ladies.
The competition for the State Medallion started a year earlier. We hold four designated 9-hole qualifying rounds here on our SaddleBrooke courses during our Lady Niners league play days. Our two competitors who win the best low gross score and the two who win the best low net score are then eligible to play in the state tournament in the fall. We’ve already started our local competition for the 2022 State Medallion Tournament.
In addition to competitive rounds of golf, we Lady Niners also enjoy fun golf outings. Our annual Crossing the Brooke was held on Tuesday, February 8. We were cordially invited by the MountainView/Preserve Lady Niners to join them for a fun day of golf, lunch and fellowship. There was a frost delay of one-hour, but the weather couldn't have been better on their MountainView Golf Course with beautiful blue skies and virtually no wind. The golf event included fun mulligans and bunker escapes, which definitely added an additional element of fun. How nice it was to golf with our neighbors.

The first-place winners were Linda Rouse, Marcy Tixier, Kat Danner and Karel Titone. Other notable mentions included Shirley Morris for closest to the "squiggly line" and Bonnie Wertz for closest to the pin. We were honored to have our Head Golf Professional Jane Chanik and Assistant Golf Professional Molly Fullerton represent us at the luncheon. We dined on chicken enchiladas with cheese sauce, Spanish rice and refried beans followed by a yummy dessert. A 50/50 raffle benefitted Women Warriors of Tucson.
Our next Lady Niners tournament is the Club Championship. It is a multi-day competition with one overall low gross winner as the Club Champion. The dates for the Club Championship are Tuesday, March 8, Thursday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 15. Flight winners are determined by Stableford Points. The flights are determined by the Tournament Chair using the golfer’s handicap effective on the first day of the multi-day tournament. On Monday, March 28, our league will host an Invitational Tournament which will bring in ladies from clubs all over the area.
