There’s one thing we do NOT at #ThisIsTucson and that’s gatekeep.
We will never keep anything we love a secret. In fact, we’d be more than happy to scream about them from the top of Mt. Lemmon.
Every week, we get the unique opportunity to interact with many different community members, learning about the beautiful art and delicious food they make. Because of that, we get the inside scoop on what’s going on around town or what new menu item to try.
Instead of keeping those things a secret, we are deciding to share the love! #ThisIsWhatWereLoving is a new series where members of the #ThisIsTucson team (along with other newsroom staffers!!) share what we’ve been loving around town lately. From funky t-shirts to silky lattes, there are so many fun things to be obsessed with in Tucson.
Kicking off this series is me, Jamie!! (Aka the food reporter here!) I wrote up a quick list of all the things I’ve been loving this month and don’t worry, there’s lots of good bites on my radar!

I could write a whole love letter dedicated to my feelings toward a Gansito, a Mexican snack cake that’s covered in chocolate and stuffed with a strawberry vanilla filling. It is the perfect little cake that tastes like heaven. I don’t care if it’s 8 a.m. or 10 p.m., there is NEVER a bad time for a Gansito.
So when Cal’s Bakeshop, at 2707 E. Broadway, announced one of their special monthly flavors was a Gansito brioche doughnut, I knew I needed to try it IMMEDIATELY.
The doughnut has a rich chocolate glaze on top and is filled with that same bright, creamy strawberry filling. It was absolutely amazing and I will definitely be back for more before the month ends.
I also tried their Honey Nut Cheerio roll, which was out of this world. It had such a gentle honey and almond flavor that was heavenly!

A couple of weeks back, Analeise Mayor was showing me all the cute finds she found while browsing Crescent Moon Mercantile, Tucson’s newest vintage store at 2801 E. Grant Rd.
As someone who is obsessed with shopping and finding the cutest home décor, I knew I needed to stop by.
I finally got the chance to check it out last Saturday and I truly could have spent hours in there. The space was gigantic and full of all kinds of vintage goods and clothes.
The best part? The prices were all pretty affordable!
The mirror I picked up while vintage shopping at Crescent Moon Mercantile.
I was able to find my dream mirror for a price that was unbeatable. For years now, I’ve been looking for a Mexican mirror that features an intricate tin border and talavera tiles that wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg.
When I saw one for sale at one of the vendors’ booths, I snatched it up immediately and took it home, where it looks AMAZING in my room!
I can’t wait to take my sisters there the next time they visit. It is truly a vintage paradise.

I think something must be in the air because I’ve been obsessed with cereal flavors this month. Hebrews Coffee, at 1439 S. 4th Ave., recently announced a new seasonal menu and their Fruity Pebbles latte instantly caught my eye.
It was love at first sip.
It tastes exactly like you’re drinking a bowl of Fruity Pebbles milk. It’s so bright and slightly citrusy. It sounds like a lot, but Hebrews somehow makes it work. It is a latte that’ll get you excited for the day ahead.

After hearing many great things about Wings y Mas, at 1145 W. Prince Rd., I finally decided to pop in and give it a try last week.
It did NOT disappoint!
I got their classic medium buffalo sauce on my wings and it was 10/10! The wings were nice and juicy and a great size too. There’s nothing worse than being served wings that are the size of an ant.
Their fries though… absolutely life changing! They had the most amazing crispy outer layer that gave an audible crunch with every bite. There were no sad, soggy fries, every one of them was fried to perfection.

💗 Dog friendly adventures at the Pima Air and Space Museum
Tucson summers are hard enough for humans, now imagine battling 100 degree weather with a layer of fur on you!
Typically, I like to take my dog, Boozer, out on special walks every weekend, but in the summertime it is nearly impossible to spend time outdoors.
I wanted to get Boozer out of the house and give him something fun to explore, so I decided to take him to the Pima Air and Space Museum, at 6000 E. Valencia Rd. The museum is not only dog friendly, but a great indoor activity!
Boozer had the time of his life! He looked at every single mannequin, I swear it looked like he was actually reading the history at each display. It was such a great experience and he got the chance to do some exploring without the fear of overheating.
