The former Budget Inn Motel on South Sixth Avenue is now just a memory.
Construction crews are cleaning up what is left after tearing down the two-story white motel right off of Interstate 10.
Terri Marsh, a property manager with 4-D Properties, said the owners are planning on redevelop the busy street corner in South Tucson.
The owners abruptly closed the hotel down in October and quickly put up chain link fencing to discourage squatters and vandalism.
City officials applauded the decision, noting the hotel had become a hotbed for illegal activities.
The South Tucson Police Department were dispatched to the motel 138 times in 2014 and 107 times in 2015 for reports of such crimes as public intoxication, possession of illegal drugs, prostitution and violent crimes. Police went there as recently as Sunday, when an assault was reported, he said.
