Canyon Ranch of Tucson was one of 12 U.S. organizations honored by UnitedHealthcare this month for its promotion of employee wellness.
More businesses are adopting wellness programs as a way to improve employee health and productivity and better manage health-care costs. The Wellness Councils of America estimate that a $1 investment in a comprehensive wellness program saves an average of $3 in health-care costs.
Canyon Ranch prepares a yearly calendar that focuses on educational topics that will have the most significant impact on its staff members' health. The company achieved a 90 percent participation rate in health assessments and a 93 percent participation rate in biometric screenings.
Staff members in any of four high-risk categories - body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar - are required to complete three wellness coaching sessions in order to receive their well credit, which reduces their health insurance premiums.
