Tucsonans will get a chance to preview the new Pearl Harbor Museum and Visitor's Center at the USS Arizona in Hawaii at the University of Arizona today.
The new facility replaces and expands the original visitor's center built in 1980. The site is the final resting place for the 1,177 USS Arizona crew members who were killed Dec. 7, 1941.
The current memorial has suffered from structural deterioration and lack of space for artifacts and educational programs.
The new $52 million center is scheduled for completion in 2010.
The preview begins at 7 p.m. at the USS Arizona Memorial Lounge at the UA Student Union Memorial Center, 1303 E. University Blvd. The event is hosted by the National Park Service.
