This is part of a series of weekly features about fun forays for families.
We'll highlight all-age summer activities that are inexpensive or even free.
Indoors and outdoors, from libraries to parks, we'll explore all sorts of ways to beat the doldrums.
Morris K. Udall Park on East Tanque Verde Road was abuzz with activity despite the triple-digit temperatures Saturday.
The indoor Morris K. Udall Regional Center at the park was full of athletes shooting hoops, little girls in tutus practicing pliés, a young man concentrating on reading music during a piano lesson, and fitness enthusiasts running laps on the indoor track and swimming laps in the pool.
Two teens playing basketball said they go to the center almost every day to practice.

"It's fun, and we always like to compete," said Nate May, 15. "The facilities are nice and convenient."
Larry and Kathy Pratt boost their heart rates by walking around the indoor track.
"We use Udall Park year-round but we move inside when it gets hot," Larry Pratt said.
Kathy Pratt added: "There are always people of all ages here. It's just a neat place."
Though the center is more than 20 years old it's well-maintained, said recreation assistant Mike Funk. "Udall has a wide variety of options for people of all ages," he said. "And it's affordable."
Cost ranges from $2 on up to use the facility. Go to cms3.tucsonaz.gov/parksandrec/udall for a list of prices and activities.
