CASA GRANDE — Police arrested a man who is accused of having a dogfighting operation at his home in the Pinal County community of Maricopa.
Damien Hartfield, 30, was booked on several counts, including animal cruelty.
An officer responding to a dog fighting call last Wednesday found two dogs fighting and covered in blood, said Maricopa police Sgt. Stephen Judd.
Hartfield brought an injured dog into the house when police tried to question him and refused to cooperate with the investigation, police said.
After getting a search warrant, police discovered seven pit bulls and pit bull mixed breeds, all showing signs of injury.
Police said they found evidence that Hartfield had been training dogs to fight and discovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia and firearms.
