$125,000 raised for heart health
Just the facts, ma'am.
That's what attendees received during the Tucson Go Red for Women Luncheon on Nov. 17 at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa.
The fourth annual event drew more than 300 women and raised $125,000 for the American Heart Association — money that will be used for cardiovascular-disease research.
Luncheon-goers heard survivor stories; took part in a silent auction; and were treated to educational sessions by Dr. John Boulet, Dr. Sanford Newmark, Dr. Lorraine Mackstaller and Stephanie Gillespie, a family nurse practitioner.
This year's keynote speaker, Lauve Metcalfe of the University of Arizona College of Medicine, spoke on how women should be champions of their own heart heath.

Habitat for Humanity benefits from golf event
The Tucson Association of Realtors golf fundraiser, held on Oct. 27, raised more than $32,000 to benefit Habitat for Humanity Tucson.
The event, which took place at the Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort, was planned by volunteers who serve on the Tucson Association of Realtors Housing Opportunities Committee, which is co-chaired by Gary Hardy and Gordon Yarrington.
The money raised will allow Habitat Tucson to build half a house for a needy family in Southern Arizona. Next year, the Tucson Association of Realtors has pledged to raise enough money to build an entire house.
Rick Hodges, chief executive officer of the Tucson Association of Realtors, thanked Housing Opportunities Committee volunteers for making this first event a tremendous success. Stewart Title & Trust and Keller Williams Realty were this year's platinum sponsors.
Golfers included John Rafferty, Sandra Kinas, Brad Horton, Lisa Suarez, Rosey Koberlein, Casey King, Gary Hardy and Dannetta Watkins.

Mayor Bob Walkup stopped by to congratulate Rush and Woodin as part of the celebration of their birthdays and The Drawing Studio's 14-year contribution to Tucson's art community.
The evening's roast at the Stillwell House was hosted by artists Margo Burwell and Stephen Romaniello.
