According to the Omaha Police Department, Tyrice Coleman was booked into the Douglas County Jail on Wednesday in connection with the Nov. 8 killing of 17-year-old Messiah Holley. At the time of his arrest, Coleman was in custody at the Douglas County Youth Center on unrelated gun charges.
Omaha police were called to 18th and Spencer Streets for a ShotSpotter activation shortly before 7 p.m. on Nov. 8. They found Holley in the area with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken with CPR in progress to a hospital, where he later died.
Court records show that Coleman has been on indefinite juvenile probation since October 2021 after a misdemeanor theft conviction. He was convicted of felony theft in 2022 and spent nearly a year in detention between the Douglas County Youth Center and Canyon State Academy, a residential treatment center in Arizona, according to court documents.

In August, Coleman was permitted to live with a family member in Elkhorn, according to court documents. On Nov. 9 — one day after Holley’s death — a warrant was issued for Coleman’s arrest after he allegedly failed to check in with his probation officer.
Just last week, prosecutors in juvenile court filed new charges against Coleman alleging that he possessed a handgun as a prohibited juvenile offender.
Coleman will likely appear in jail court later this week for a bail hearing.
