For those who have spent their lives on the West Coast, the idea of National Frozen Custard Day is pretty new or downright foreign.
For folks who hail from the Midwest or East Coast, Monday's holiday couldn't come soon enough.
Yep, Monday, Aug. 8, is National Frozen Custard Day, which is about as legitimate a holiday as National Pizza Day (Nov. 12), National Peppermint Latte Day (Dec. 3) or National Take Your Dog to Work Day. You missed that one; it was June 8.
All day today at area Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers restaurants, you can get a single scoop cake cone or dish of chocolate or vanilla frozen custard for a buck. And Freddy's will donate 50 cents from every one sold to one of two national charities: Kids In Need Foundation and Playworks. You get to dcide: text either "KIDS" for Kids in Need or "RECESS" for Playworks to 72727.
