A 35-year-old man was shot and killed by Pima County sheriff's deputies last week after he walked towards them while armed with a sword, authorities said.
Deputies were responding to a domestic dispute call at about 3:45 p.m. Sept. 25 in the 6700 block of West Kay Lynn Drive, on the Tucson area's far southwest side. They tried to speak with Joseph Arnold Vallombroso, who was uncooperative, the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team said in a news release Friday.
He kept walking toward them at a fast pace while armed with a sword, and deputies opened fire, the release said.
Vallombroso died at the scene. No other community members or deputies were injured.
The investigation continues.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team is a multi-agency group that investigates shootings involving law enforcement officers.
