Inside the classroom: Cavender maintains a 3.6 GPA. "I would get all A's if I wasn't so busy," he said. "I'd rather have a couple of B's and be busy."
He loves science. By the time he graduates, he will have taken all the science courses that Green Fields offers.
Outside the classroom: Cavender is in the middle of rehearsals for a school production of "Bye Bye, Birdie." He also plays baseball, soccer and basketball at school, but he likes soccer best and hopes to play in college. He's a goalkeeper.
He also won the March 4 Regional Shakespeare Competition at the University of Arizona. His baseball team was in the middle of a tournament in Phoenix that weekend, and he scooted down to Tucson long enough to win the Shakespeare competition before hitting the road to get back to the team.

Favorite class: AP biology.
Favorite school memory: The Shakespeare competition win is pretty high up there, he said. He liked being from one of the smallest schools in the contest and still winning. "The whole school's morale was boosted," he said. "It put a smile on everyone's face. I just think it's a very cool underdog story."
The whole time the judges were announcing winners, he said, "I was like, just get me out of here." His baseball coach had called and said the team was going to have to forfeit its next match in the tournament if Carr didn't return soon. When the judges called his name as the first-place winner, he said a quick thank-you and said he had to leave. Then he handed his medal to his mom and left.
Favorite person at school: Mitch Dorson, the new history teacher. "He makes history fun for me. He's just a very good person and a very happy person. That's why he's my favorite."
Favorite movie: "Braveheart," starring Mel Gibson..
Sports Pick: He loves the New England Patriots and was a fan even before their back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 2004 and 2005.
Ideal vacation: "We go up to Michigan every summer, and it's just the perfect world for me." He has a part-time job and spends time with friends and doing aquatic sports.
Person he'd most like to meet: Jesus Christ. "I have so many questions." Carr is not a church-goer but wishes he knew more about religion.
School sound bite: "He's Student Council vice president. He plays in all the shows here. He plays all the sports. I don't know when this kid sleeps. Just a phenomenal young man, he really is. Tremendous. I'm blessed to have him as a student and a friend," Dorson said.
Future plans: To go to a challenging college but one that will make him happy. "I really feel like I'm going to do something with science, but honestly, I don't know," he said. "I'd just like to maintain the view that I have now of just having fun and enjoying life no matter what it hands me."
