The Christie’s Appliance store at 6355 E. Broadway is moving to a larger store about a mile down the road at 7255 E. Broadway, Suite 175, in the shopping center anchored by JoAnn Fabric and Crafts.
The new store — set to open on Monday — will have 10,000 square feet of showroom space, which is more than 2,000 square feet larger than its current space. It will also include warehouse space, so the company can keep more appliances in stock by taking advantage of special deals its suppliers have, said Doug Betts, owner of Christie’s.
“When people walk in, we think they are going to say, ‘Wow! These people are in the business,” Betts said. “It’s wide open and we’re going to have a great display.”
Christie’s keeps more than 2,000 appliances in stock, does its own deliveries and has its own service center in the main store at North Country Club and East Fort Lowell roads, which Betts says is part of the reason the company has survived since 1956.

Betts, a former Maytag representative, bought Christie’s in 1983 and has owned it ever since. “I’ve owned it 31 years,” he said. “We grew from a one store, five-employee operation to a three-store, 49-employee operation.”
