In apparent accident, sister shoots, kills brother
A Phoenix man is dead after apparently being shot accidentally by his sister, who was playing with a gun, authorities said.
Manuel Ortiz, 22, was fatally shot in the head at about 6 a.m. Monday at an apartment complex, Phoenix police said.
Ortiz and his 19-year-old sister were drinking with two other people in the apartment. A witness told police that someone in the group pulled out a handgun to take photos with it.
Ortiz's sister was apparently playing with the gun when it accidentally discharged, police said.
Police didn't immediately identify the woman. They said she was questioned and released pending further investigation.

A small plane crash-landed Monday near Chandler Municipal Airport, but all four people aboard escaped injury, authorities said.
The plane went down in a dirt field across from the airport at about 11:45 a.m., a spokesman for the Chandler Fire Department said.
The Cessna 210 lost power on its approach to the airport, and the pilot had to make a forced landing about a quarter-mile south of Chandler Municipal, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.
All of the passengers got out of the plane by themselves and were walking around when rescue crews arrived, city fire officials said. Their names weren't immediately available.
The FAA will investigate the incident, Gregor said.
Two men are arrested in Prescott home invasion
Two Prescott men have been arrested in connection with a home invasion in Northern Arizona.
Yavapai County sheriff's officials said 18-year-old Patrick Collins and 31-year-old Jacob Cota were jailed on $50,000 bond apiece.
Both were being held on suspicion of robbery, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and theft.
Deputies said Cota and Collins are suspected in a Dec. 22 robbery at a home in Prescott.
The 84-year-old homeowner said two men confronted him and stole at least five firearms.
The victim told officers he believed the suspects had been to his home before because they seemed familiar with the contents and layout of his home.
Detectives later recovered the firearms; Collins and Cota were arrested days later.
Authorities didn't know Monday if either man had legal representation yet.
