Tucson piano students will have an opportunity to discover the power of their own musicianship in a workshop sponsored by the Southern Arizona Chapter, American Guild of Organists.
Students will perform favorite piano works on a pipe organ from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 27 at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, 3809 E. Third St.
The workshop is free, and piano students can make reservations by calling Fern Hieb at 321-4080.
According to Hieb, who is organizing the workshop, "One pipe organ can equal the volume of a symphony orchestra. It is also the most complicated of all instruments. The average organ has more than 2,000 pipes, and you might play more than 100 of them at once in a large chord."
Each pipe organ is unique, Hieb said, and can change tone color during the performance of a single piece.

"The organ is thousands of years old but still modern today," she said. "We want students to have the opportunity to experience the power and complexity of performing on an ancient and modern instrument."
