School tax credit deadline is Dec. 31
People wishing to take the Arizona School Tax Credit for 2006 must make their contributions to schools before the end of the year. Most school districts have a tax-credit link on their Web sites to make the donation easy.
Credit can be claimed for contributions or fees paid to public schools for extracurricular activities or character education programs. A credit may also be claimed for donations made to qualified school tuition organizations for scholarships to private schools.
For single taxpayers the maximum credit for contributions to a public school is $200 in one year. For those who are married, filing jointly, the maximum credit is $400. The private school tuition credit maximum is $500 for single taxpayers or $1,000 for those married and filing jointly.

Flandrau offering holiday shows
See a holiday planetarium show at the Flandrau Science Center, 1601 E. University Blvd. Shows are 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. Saturdays, 2:30 p.m. Sundays through Jan. 7. There will be additional 2:30 p.m. shows Dec. 27-29 and Jan. 3-5. The $2.50 fee includes entry to the exhibit halls. Call 621-7827 for more information.
This show traces the development of many of the world's holiday customs, and how they involve lighting up the winter season, from the burning Yule log and sparkling Christmas tree lights to the lighting of the Menorah and luminarias.
There will be possible explanations of the star over Bethlehem from the history of 2,000 years ago. The show also recounts the historical religious and cultural rituals practiced during the time of the winter solstice including Christian, Jewish, Celtic, Pagan, Nordic, Roman, Egyptian and Hopi rituals.
Iron Horse neighbors to meet
The Iron Horse Neighborhood Association meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Parkwise meeting room, 110 E. Pennington St.
The agenda includes Ward 6 and police updates and feedback on the recent street fair. A Christmas party follows.

The Palo Verde Neighborhood Association meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Khalsa School, 3244 E. Camden St.

The Barrio Hollywood Neighborhood Association is holding its Christmas potluck at 7 p.m. Thursday at the El Rio Neighborhood Center, 1390 W. Speedway. The winners of the Christmas lights contest will be announced.
