Para conmemorar la muerte del padre Eusebio Francisco Kino hace 300 años, se celebrará una misa la próxima semana. Kino estableció varias misiones en México y Arizona, entre ellas la de San Xavier del Bac.
La ceremonia será el sábado 13 de marzo a las 12 p.m., en la catedral de St. Augustine, situada en 192 S. Stone Ave. La ceremonia es patrocinada por el Kino Heritage Society.
Kino era misionario jesuita y murió en Magdalena, Sonora, el 15 de marzo en 1711.
La misa rendirá honor a su contribución a la agricultura de este área, y a sus esfuerzos para establecer paz y co-existencia entre los indígenas y los recién llegados a Pimería Alta.
Antes de la misa habrá una presentación de La Iniciativa Kino para la Frontera, sobre la protección de la dignidad de las personas en la frontera.

La presentación será hecha por el reverendo Sean Carroll, S.J., de Nogales, Arizona. Carroll es el director ejecutivo de la iniciativa. La plática también se realizará en la catedral, de 10:30 a 11:30 a.m.
La iniciativa es un proyecto del grupo Jesuit Refugee Service/USA, junto con cinco organizaciones que apoyan a inmigrantes perdidos, detenidos o deportados en Ambos Nogales.
Las organizaciones incluyen a California Province of the Society of Jesus, the Mexico Province of the Society of Jesus, the Missionary Sisters of the Eucharist, la Arquidiócesis de Hermosillo y la Diócesis de Tucsón.

A Mass will be celebrated next week to mark the upcoming 300th anniversary of the death of Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino who established San Xavier del Bac and other missions in Mexico and Arizona.
The service will be on Saturday, March 13, at noon at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. It is sponsored by the Kino Heritage Society.
Kino, a Jesuit missionary, died in Magdalena, Sonora, on March 15th, 1711.
The Mass honors his many agricultural contributions to this area and his efforts to ensure peace and co-existence among the indigenous people and newcomers in the Pimeria Alta.
Before the Mass there will be a presentation on the "Kino Border Initiative: Protecting Dignity and Life on the Border," delivered by the Rev. Sean Carroll, S.J., of Nogales, Ariz. Carroll is the executive director of the Kino Border Initiative. The talk will be held in the St. Augustine Parish Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The Kino Border Initiative is a project of the Jesuit Refugee Service/USA and five partner organizations serving stranded, detained and deported immigrants in the cities of Nogales, Ariz., and Nogales, Sonora. The partner organizations include the California Province of the Society of Jesus, the Mexico Province of the Society of Jesus, the Missionary Sisters of the Eucharist, the Archdiocese of Hermosillo and the Diocese of Tucson.
The Kino Heritage Society works to promote awareness of Kino's legacy of peace and co-existence in the Southwest and Northern Sonora in anticipation of his beatification and canonization (sainthood).
