Customs and Border Protection officers at the Nogales port arrested eight people and seized about $1.2 million in drugs thwarting separate smuggling attempts in the past five days.
Those arrested were five U.S. citizens and three Mexican nationals.
The biggest seizure was the discovery of 27 pounds of heroin, 20 pounds of meth and nearly 3 pounds of cocaine in a Ford sedan on May 15 at the DeConcini crossing. The drugs had a combined worth of $473,000, the agency said in a news release.
Arrested in that case were Sergio Eduardo Gonzalez, 25, of Rio Rico, and his passenger Aaron Lopez Molina of Nogales, Arizona, CBP said.
In another seizure, officers at the Mariposa crossing found 400 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a Ford sedan. The 19 bundles were worth about $202,000. Officers arrested Luis Antonio Acuna-Frasquillo, 59, of Magdalena, Sonora.

2 pounds of heroin worth about $33,000. The CBP said these drugs were found wrapped around the stomach and in the undergarments of a 32-year-old Phoenix woman attempting to cross at the Mariposa crossing. Officers arrested Tina Marie McFarland, the CBP said.
