CASA GRANDE — A Navy SEAL was killed Wednesday during a free-fall parachute jump that was part of a training exercise, a Navy official said.
The accident occurred at around 6 a.m., said Lt. David Luckett, a public-affairs officer at the Naval Amphibious Base in Little Creek, Va.
His body was found at the Mission Royale Golf Course in Casa Grande, about 30 miles south of Phoenix. The cause of the accident is under investigation, Luckett said.
The SEAL was part of a group conducting training out of a National Guard facility outside Tucson.
His name is being withheld while his relatives are notified. He was assigned to an East Coast-based SEAL team.
The death was the second in recent weeks during SEAL training. Petty Officer 2nd Class Shapoor Alexander Ghane Jr., 22, of Las Vegas, died Jan. 30 from gunshot wounds suffered during a training exercise at a facility run by contractors in Lake Cormorant, Miss.
