Two Glendale brothers were dead after a family dispute ended in two separate shootings, including one between police officers.
About 7 a.m. Sept. 16, Glendale police responded to a 911 call from a mother stating there was a fight between her sons and that she heard one gunshot, said department spokesperson Sgt. Justin Ramsay, at a news conference.
Officers responded to the area near 61st Avenue and Bloomfield Road at the home the woman and her two sons shared, he said.
Police identified the two men as Steven Landos, 54, and Terry Landos, 64. The department noted it was familiar with the two men from prior calls for service to the home. The two brothers had altercations in the past, including a domestic violence assault case from earlier in 2026 involving the brothers physically fighting, Ramsay said. A Glendale police news release stated there was a history of "criminal activity" at the home.

Ramsay could not provide answers regarding a motive for the shooting.
The mother walked into the bedroom and found Steven Landos “down with a single gunshot wound and unresponsive," Ramsay said.
The older brother, Terry Landos, fled the scene in a white van, he said.
Glendale police used its real-time crime center and drone equipment to locate Terry Landos within “10 minutes,” near 163rd and Grand avenues, Ramsay said.
Undercover detectives made contact with Terry Landos near a wash in Surprise where they found him “armed with a handgun,” according to Ramsay.
Officers shot at Terry Landos, Ramsay said.
The man was pronounced dead on scene "after pointing a handgun" at the U.S. Marshal's Task Force Agents and Glendale detectives, Ramsay said. He did not answer questions regarding how many times the man was shot at or how many officers were involved in the shooting.
The Surprise Police Department was not a part of the shooting, Ramsay said.
The West Valley Investigative Response Team, made up of other local law enforcement agencies in West Metro Phoenix, and Goodyear police will take over the investigation into the police shooting, Ramsay said.
The investigation remains active and is being investigated by the U.S. Marshals Office, the news release said.
Steven Landos was charged in 2024 with two counts of drug possession to sell and transportation, according to court records. He also pleaded guilty in 2008 to aggravated assault by entering a residence, court records showed.
There have been at least 62 police shootings in Arizona so far in 2026, with at least 34 of them fatal. This was also the second police shooting in the area in two days, following a fatal shooting in Gilbert on Sept. 15.
