• Cubs manager Lou Piniella has decided to move ace right-hander Carlos Zambrano to the bullpen.Piniella talked to Zambrano about switching to an eighth-inning role before Chicago faced the Mets on Wednesday night. Piniella said Zambrano was ready to do whatever was best for the team, and the change "makes all the sense in the world." Ted Lilly will be inserted into the rotation when he comes off the disabled list, probably this weekend. Zambrano said he doesn't like the idea of being a reliever but wants to help the team win.
• Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman left Wednesday's game against the Rockies after appearing to hurt his right hamstring while running out a double.
• Nationals prospect Stephen Strasburg allowed a single and a walk in five shutout innings Wednesday, striking out six in his third professional start. He improved to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 0.73 in Double-A Harrisburg's 3-0 victory over Reading.
