Bryce Coleman gained nearly 1,200 all-purpose yards for the Tucson High football team last year as a sophomore.
On Friday night, he could be making his first start of the season — against those same Badgers.
Coleman, who transferred to Mountain View over the summer, will have his hardship appeal heard at today’s Arizona Interscholastic Association board meeting. If the junior is cleared, he would be eligible to play Friday night when the Mountain Lions travel to Tucson for a 7 p.m. game.
Coleman was one of three transfers from Tucson to Mountain View who were ruled ineligible last month because of a violation of the AIA’s prior contact rule.
The Mountain Lions were also found in violation of the recruiting rule regarding the transfer of UA verbal commit Demetrius Flannigan and could receive sanctions during today’s meeting. The school is not filing an appeal for Flannigan’s eligibility.

Here’s a look at what else to watch in this busy week as the regular season for some fall sports, including golf, come to an end:
Today
Girls golf: Sahuaro, last year’s Division II state champions, will get another postseason warm-up when it faces Ironwood Ridge at Omni National at 3 p.m.
Senior Desiree Hong and the Cougars, ranked second in Division II, tied No. 1 Salpointe Catholic last week and are sure to be challenged by the Nighthawks, who are ranked fourth in Division I.
Tuesday
Girls volleyball: Cienega will try to extend its winning streak on Tuesday when it hosts a tough Sahuaro squad for a 6 p.m. match.
The Bobcats, ranked 12th in Division II, have won three straight regular-season matches but fifth-ranked Sahuaro has a streak of its own, winning seven in a row.
Sophomore Brielle Sterns and the Cougars beat Cienega in the semifinals of Mountain View’s Lion’s Den Invitational last weekend on its way to a second-place finish.
Wednesday
Boys golf: Canyon del Oro and Catalina Foothills play each other at 3 p.m. in what will likely be a dress rehearsal for the Division II state championships that begin Nov. 3.
The four-team match hosted by Sahuarita at Country Club of Green Valley was originally scheduled for earlier this month, but was postponed because of lightning.
Both the Dorados and Falcons are ranked inside the top five and are serious contenders for the team championship. Furthermore, CDO senior Chris Meyers and Foothills sophomore Gavin Cohen will be among the top challengers for the individual crown.
Friday
Football: Ironwood Ridge will go for its eighth straight win when it plays at Salpointe Catholic on Friday at 7 p.m.
Senior quarterback Michael Franzese rushed for 177 yards and three touchdowns last week to help the Nighthawks (7-1) to a 42-7 win at Mountain View.
The Lancers (7-1) are coming off a 20-0 win at Casa Grande Vista Grande but were without 11 players, who coach Dennis Bene held out for “not meeting team standards.” Among those held out were senior quarterback Sammy Muniz and freshman athlete Jamarye Joiner. It’s still unclear if they will take the field this week.
