Birdman HHHH — Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel, Amores Perros) directs Michael Keaton as a fading actor who once played a superhero and is now trying to restart his career with a Broadway play. Although camera trickery was involved, the entire film appears to be filmed in one single, uninterrupted shot. Take that, Alfonso Cuaron! Rated R. 119 minutes.

Gone Girl HHHH — David Fincher directs this adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s mammoth bestseller about a man (Ben Affleck) accused of murdering his wife (Rosamund Pike). Did he do it? We’re not telling. Rated R. 149 minutes.
Guardians of the Galaxy HHH — The Marvel Comics space superhero team comes to the screen, starring Chris Pratt as the pilot leading a squad of misfits, including a talking raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper). Rated PG-13. 121 minutes.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies HH — If you managed to slog through the first two installments of Peter Jackson’s bloated trilogy based on the J.R.R. Tolkien novel, it is now finally sputtering to an end. Rated PG-13. 144 minutes.
The Homesman HHH — This ambitious yet fractious frontier drama based on Glendon Swarthout’s novel stars Hilary Swank and Tommy Lee Jones. The story revolves around three wives and mothers who have gone mad. Rated R. 122 minutes.
Horrible Bosses 2 HH — Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis return in this sequel to the 2011 surprise hit. This time, the trio start their own business so they have no mean supervisors to deal with, only to be faced with an aggressive takeover. Christoph Waltz, Chris Pine are the new baddies, joined by Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Spacey from the first film. Rated R. 108 minutes.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 HHH — Jennifer Lawrence reprises her role as Katniss Evergreen, who in the first half of the final installment in the series is becoming a symbol for rebellion. Also, there’s boyfriend trouble. With Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson and Philip Seymour Hoffman in one of his last roles. Rated PG-13. 125 minutes.
The Imitation Game HHH — Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing, the eccentric British genius who built a machine (arguably the first computer) that could crack the complicated encryption code used by Nazis in their messages during World War II. Rated PG-13. 114 minutes.
Interstellar HHH ½ — Director Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight trilogy) shoots for the moon with this mind-blowing sci-fi epic about a group of astronauts (including Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway) who must find a new planet for mankind to inhabit after Earth is wrecked in the near-future. See it in IMAX or not at all. PG-13. 169 minutes.
Into the Woods HHH ½ — Rob Marshall (Chicago) directs this adaptation of the Broadway musical phenomenon about a witch (Meryl Streep) making life difficult for Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy) and Jack (Daniel Huttlestone), the one with the beanstalk. Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt and Lucy Punch round out the star-studded cast. Rated PG-13. 124 minutes.

Unbroken HH — Joel and Ethan Coen wrote the screenplay and Angelina Jolie directed this retelling of the harrowing experiences of Louis Zamperini (played by Jack O’Connell), the Olympic runner who was captured by the Japanese during World War II. Rated PG-13. 137 minutes.
Wild HHH ½ — Reese Witherspoon stars for director Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club) in this adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s best-selling memoir about a woman who embarks on a 1,100-mile hike by herself. Rated R. 115 minutes.
