Walmart's newest Tucson Super Center, at 1260 E. Tucson Marketplace Blvd. near Kino Parkway and 36th Street, celebrates its grand opening Friday with a ribbon cutting at 7:30 a.m. Doors open at 8 a.m.
There will be character appearances, product giveaways and samplings, and live entertainment for the opening.
The store's manager, Brian Schield, is a Tucson native who started his Walmart career in 1995 as an hourly associate and worked his way up to oversee the new store.
"This is an area that has a lot of vacant property. We are hoping to be the catalyst to help revive this part of Tucson," Schield said in a news release.
Walmart will donate $15,000 in grants to the Tucson Urban League, John A. Valenzuela Youth Center, Casa Maria Free Kitchen, League of United Latin American Citizens and others.
