New York-based Breakthru Beverage Group has acquired full ownership of Alliance Beverage Distributing Co., a Phoenix-based multi-line beverage wholesaler with operations in Tucson.
Alliance will now operate as Breakthru Beverage Arizona, as part of a 14-state distribution operation.
Breakthru, which formed in January through a merger of Charmer Sunbelt Group and Wirtz Beverage Group, represents a portfolio of wine, spirits and beer brands.
Alliance Beverage Distributing Company was formed as a joint venture in 1999 between Arizona Beverage, then a Charmer-Sunbelt company, and Cactus Beverage, part of Dallas-based Glazer’s Inc.
Breakthru acquired Glazer’s 50 percent stake in Alliance to form Breakthru Beverage Arizona.
Breakthru Beverage Arizona is led by former Alliance executive vice president Gary Lederer. The company said it will maintain Alliance operations and facilities in Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff and employ 550 employees.

The deal is the latest in a series of beverage-industry consolidation s, including the acquisition of Golden Eagle Distributors by Phoenix-based Hensley Beverage Co. in January.
