When the passion play "Simon Peter" closed shop last year because of copyright issues, it looked like the end of a longstanding tradition in the Old Pueblo.
But Tucsonan Michael Dohrmann wasn't about to let that happen.
Dohrmann played several key characters, including the roles of Andrew and John, in "Simon Peter" and has even directed the Easter musical.
He will debut his own passion production, "On the Road to Jerusalem," at the Tucson Convention Center Music Hall today.
"I had the idea a long time ago," Dohrmann told the Star in February. "It was always in the back of my mind. When 'Simon Peter' closed, it gave me the perfect opportunity."
Though "in the spirit" of the Simon Peter play — which documented the last days of Jesus Christ — "On the Road" takes a different approach, looking at the story from the Roman soldiers' points of view.
